Ural Owlet
Sleeping in tree bark

Ural owls are widely distributed across Eurasia, from Scandinavia to South Korea, Japan and Sakhalin.
They have a wingspan of about 130 cm, and rounded heads with no “ear” tufts.

The first photo shows an Ural owlet taking a nap during the day. It takes about a month before the it will be ready to leave the nest.

The next photo shows an adult Ural Owl. It was really tough to spot is as it was so perfectly camouflaged in the winter landscape. In addition, this was photographed near dusk, when the sunlight was fading fast. The owl looks wide awake and ready to hunt for its next meal when it turns the dark.
