The Itinerary

We meet up with all the participants at Sandakan Airport in Sabah, Malaysia in afternoon 3PM. We proceed to 2.5-hour drive in a comfortable air-con van to accommodation for the night. Dinner at accommodation.

DAY 2 & 3 (whole day)

We will be boarding the boat early morning at 6AM. Breakfast will be taken on board so you can have it anytime you want.

As this period is the flowering/fruiting season, you will get to see many different kinds of birds nesting; Such as the Red-and-black Broadbill, Yellow-and-black Broadbill, Malaysian Blue-flycatcher and more…

Raptors will be circling the sky as the morning heats up and the largest of the living reptiles, the Saltwater Crocodile will be basking in the sun on the shores of the river. Hornbills will be happily hoping around the fruiting trees with many fruits collected in its beak (or lizards).

By 11AM, we will be heading back to the accommodation for lunch and rest.

We set off on boat again in the late afternoon at around 3PM for Pygmy Elephants and Primates that usually gather in big groups towards the evening to feed. Proboscis Monkeys, Pig-tailed Macaques, Long-tailed Macaques are the nosier bunch that you will get to encounter on the trees along the river. We may also chance upon the more elusive Silvered Langur and Maroon Langur. If we are lucky, we may get to see the Orangutan constructing their nest for the night to sleep.

DAY 4 (half day)

We will be heading out again on boat in the morning at 6AM until 10AM to photo shoot the diverse wildlife of the Kinabatangan River before heading back to accommodation for checking out. In total, we would go on 5 boat trips if the weather permits..
We will then proceed to 2.5-hour drive on van to airport, homeward bound!

We will organized a final session at C.S.Ling’s photo studio with your final set of edited photos for another round of critic and improvement session. Food and drinks will be provided. : )

“This place is so perfect for photography. Its a Birds’ Paradise… I liked the concept of taking photos from an open boat with sufficient space within – one row for each participant. Thus, we are able to cover all the best shots by getting much closer to the wildlife (Birds, Mammals and Snakes as well). The daily schedule is suitable, covering a good amount of shooting time and breaks. This makes it interesting, comfortable yet non-tiring. There is no hurriedness; We will be waiting at the spot, capturing the actions until everyone is satisfied with their shots. I also enjoyed the photo review and tips by Ling. The photo-editing session was excellent; We’ve learnt a lot on composing the perfect shot and very much impressed with the Layer technique (which i nicknamed as “Ling Layer”) for the sequence shots. I would like to commend the good eye-sight of Ahmed (Boat Guide) and his patience and efforts in adjusting the boat for us to take good shots. Overall I’ve had a great experience; wanted to stay a few more days…. We are grateful to you that you gave us an opportunity to visit such an amazing place…. Definitely I would like to join more of such tours in future.” – Abhishek. S, Singapore.

“The best safari I have been to. Got more than what I expected. I was extremely excited to see 5 species of hornbills and many eagles too. I also like entering the small rivers, very quiet and surreal’ like National Geographic come to live. Every day is full of surprises.

Even on the departure day to the airport, I was able to capture the Red Leaf monkeys and Crested Serpent eagles maintaining their nest. What a treat. The daily review lessons were valuable time of learning from Ling on how to compose great shots and enhance them during post production. The final step in completing the wildlife experience.” – Chow Ngian, Singapore.

“It was a good trip for me to get away from work stress and get to know & improve my photography skills and learn more about the wildlife in Borneo. The arrangements for the trip was very basic (i.e. accommodation and food). But the key was the sharing and learning in the field with professionals, which what this trip was all about.

Ling is a seasoned professional in her field, allowing us to do our things but helped when needed. The highlight for me was photographing the wild elephants. The boatman Ahmad was great, with very sharp eyesight. I would certainly recommend any hobbyist Wildlife Photographer to the trip.” – Jack. T, Singapore.
