DAY 2 – Arusha to Tarangire National Park

We take a 2-hr drive to Tarangire National Park.

Tarangire boast a variety of wildlife as diverse as its landscape. During the dry season,  animals are forced to move closer and closer to the Tarangire River in search of water. The landscape of Tarangire is set against a backdrop of majestic Baobab and Acacia trees, making it one of the most beautiful destination for wildlife photography. Tarangire holds the largest population of African elephants in Tanzania and these pachyderms loves to eat the bark of the Baobab Trees during the dry season to obtain moisture from the trunk’s reserves. Where there are Arcacia trees, you will surely find the giraffes. If we are lucky, we might spot Omo, the incredibly rare white giraffe roaming in the savanna! (source : National Geographic)

With its wide variety of habitats and food sources, Tarangire National Park is a popular destination for birds as well. With more than 550 species of bird – the highest number on all of Tanzania – Tarangire truly is a birdwatcher’s paradise!

We will spend the morning in Tarangire National Park before slowly making our way towards the Ngorongoro Crater. An extinct volcano teeming with wildlife often compared to the Garden of Eden and said to have the highest density of wildlife in Africa. The area contains over 25,000 large animals including lions, leopards, cheetahs, zebras, hyenas, jackals, wildebeest, gnus, gazelles, hippos, elephants, primates, etc. Of special mention, the Ngorongoro crater is also home to 26 black rhinoceros, one of the most elusive and critically endangered animal in the world.

DAY 4 – Ngorongoro Conservation Area

We will spend the whole day exploring the Ngorongoro crater, with an early head start in the morning before most tour vehicles depart. Descending from the rim at 7,600 feet in elevation, to the floor of the crater, the 22.5 km wide Ngorongoro crater is home to the world’s highest density of lions, including the famous black-maned lions. The darker the mane, the more powerful the lion. We spend the maximum possible time exploring the many habitats on the crater floor. You’ll soon see why Ngorongoro is considered to be among the world’s great wonders.

DAY 5 – Ngorongoro Conservation Area to Central Serengeti National Park

The signature wide open plains at the heart of the Serengeti is one of the best location for photographing the drama of predators hunting down their preys. Our camp is situated near the infamous Seronera Valley, which is often referred to as the ‘predator capital of Africa’.

DAY 6 – Central to Northern Serengeti National Park

Imagine being surrounded by millions of zebra, wildebeest and gnus in the wide open plains. Definitely an experience worth living! Often misunderstood, the Great Migration is a perpetual, year-round process involving over one million wildebeest and 200,000 zebra who roam the plains quietly, in search of food and water. The migration’s most dramatic moments often occur when large numbers of wildebeest and zebra make river crossings, during which they must elude predators in a desperate fight for survival. There is no telling exactly when these highly dramatic movements will occur, but all safari-goers are sure to see plenty of wildebeest and zebra while in Tanzania.

DAY 7 – Northern Serengeti National Park

We enjoy a full day on the expansive plains of Serengeti. The diversity and density of wildlife ensures that you constantly experience something new. When photographing wildlife it’s always tempting to get as close as you can and use the longest lens to make close-up portraits of the animals. But such images could be made anywhere, even in a zoo. In the Serengeti, you have the ability to use a wider angle lens and include some of the landscape in the frame to provide context without ending up with distracting elements.
