Working on my 10-year of Wildlife Photography showreel on Adobe Premier, After Effects, Photoshop and Lightroom all at the same time, accessing files via SanDisk Extreme 900 Portable SSD.

There are already tons of stellar reviews out there on SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD, from first impressions to detailed technical performance test. But only time will tell in regards to reliability and durability. Thus, I decided that I would use the SanDisk Extreme 900 (1.92TB) extensively (it’s been with me for several overseas assignments and daily studio work now) before putting my thoughts out there from a professional photographer’s point of view.
Here’s my final thoughts on the SanDisk Extreme 900 (1.92TB) :

SPEED : Delightfully fast in transferring of all my large high-res photo files, huge PSD, TIFF and video files. There are reports on the read/write speed of up to 850MBps, but honestly, I’m not a techie. All i know is, my 100GB assignment folder is successfully transferred to the drive before I could finish my 10-min coffee break and that says a lot. No time is wasted when it really counts.

VERSATILITY: I could efficiently work on my files directly from SanDisk Extreme 900 on my Lightroom + Photoshop and even Premiere + After Effects at the same time without slowing down. I also have two Mac laptops and PC desktop that I work from (they are connected to different machines such as large format printer, cutter and copier). The SanDisk Extreme 900 has proven to be really useful and versatile when I have to work on different computers with the same files (much faster than accessing files from my NAS – Network-attached storage).

APPEARANCE: Very handsomely designed. I love the sleek rubber bumper, smooth round-off edges and shock-resistant aluminium casing. It stays quiet and cool even after 6-8 hours of intensive usage. The size is perfect. Compact enough to fit on my hand so it’s easy to carry around, but big enough so I don’t have to worry about dropping or losing sight of it. Also another small detail to note, the usb cable fit very well to the drive which is great as there are many times whereby I have to use my portable drive on the go in a moving vehicle. I have experienced usb cable falling out in another brand of portable drive that I have used previously.

Beyond all of that praises, I realised that out of all the portable and non-portable drives I have, the SanDisk Extreme 900 Portable SSD is the one where I reach out to the most. SanDisk products have gained my trust over the years with their CF and SD cards, and it’s Extreme 900 Portable SSD is no exception. As a professional photographer, reliability and durability are the most important aspects of any piece of equipment I own when I am on important assignments and overseas trips. Malfunction of any piece of equipment during assignment means lost of time, sleep and money. Thankfully, SanDisk products have supported me smoothly through my 10 years of photography. Not to mention, SanDisk Extreme 900 Portable SSD also comes with a 3-years warranty.

I am very happy to report that the SanDisk Extreme 900 portable SSD is a valuable and indispensable piece of equipment in my photography journey wherever i go.
